Oregon Dog Rescue
Oregon Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It is also a no-kill shelter, so the dogs stay at the facility until they find their families.
The group was started in 2007 by two women who, at the time, had 12 years of rescue experience. Their dogs come from overcrowded local shelters, owners who can no longer keep their dogs (following an evaluation), and from high-kill shelters all over. Their facility is in Portland and can accommodate up to 125 dogs at a time.
While at Oregon Dog Rescue, the pups spend their days in playrooms, where they can socialize with each other and interact with Staff and Volunteers. The dogs are spayed or neutered as soon as they arrive, brought up-to-date on their vaccinations, microchipped as well as de-wormed and flea treated. Staff members evaluate their residents to see what type of family would be best for each one. They are devoted to both placing their dogs with the best matches for them and to assuring the long-term success of each adoption. Their staff is available for follow-up care and for the lifetime of the pet.
Since their first adoption, they have helped over 16,686 pups find their forever homes.
A Happy Tail
Please allow us to introduce you to a magical girl named Unicorn! Unicorn traveled to Oregon Dog Rescue from the far away land of Texas. Escaping the euthanasia list is no easy feat but this sweet pup dazzled everyone with her enthusiastic charm. Her energy proved to be a power she hadn't yet harnessed therefore she was being overlooked by potential adopters because her zest for life was off the charts. That's until our friends at K10 Academy Dog Training met her! Ray and Alyda volunteer their time and skills to work with long-term residents of the rescue. They help set them up for success, and ultimately contribute to them finding forever homes. Unicorn was an unexpected challenge who pulled on their heartstrings. They fell more in love with Unicorn each time they trained together, and it was evident she completed their family They knew they could offer the training, time, exercise, and love that she requires to be her best self. Sometimes the unexpected adoptions end up being the most enchanting of all!
